Acqua Panna
Acqua Panna, is now over 450 years old. The spring of Acqua Panna® Natural Spring Water, dates back to the Romans, and is considered by some to be Italy's most famous spring water. It comes from the region of Tuscany located 3700 feet high in the serene Apennines Mountains. It's a source located on a vast, unspoiled natural reserve. The source, to the north of Florence, is nestled among beechwood and chestnut forests, and lush meadows on the slopes of Mount Gazzaro in the town of Scarperia.

Legend has it that Romans built the only road from Northern to Southern Italy through Scarperia. This road went past the Acqua Panna spring, which provided deserved refreshment to weary travelers.

In the 1500s, terra cotta pipes were discovered near the source. These pipes were used to transport the natural spring water to the noble Medici Family, the wealthiest, most powerful and influential family in Florence. The Medici's home, called Villa Panna, is located on the land surrounding the source. The cream-colored villa provides the name for the brand, "Panna," which means "cream" in Italian. The lion's head found on the Acqua Panna logo was originally part of the fountain at Villa Panna.

In the 1860s, the first Panna water was manually bottled from a plant built in one of the Medici's farm buildings. Sold in demijohns or fiashi, straw-covered glass flasks now used for Chianti wine, the water was delivered by horse and cart to Florence. In 1927, after World War I, the water was bottled in glass on an industrial scale.

In 1959, San Pellegrino Spa purchased the plant, and in 1970 the brand was re-launched as the first still water sold in plastic bottles in Italy. The Panna plant quickly became one of the most technologically advanced bottling plants in Europe. In 1994 Acqua Panna® Natural Spring Water was first exported to the United States. Italian waters are famous for their lightness. The low mineral content of Acqua Panna (less than 150 mg/l) is due to filtration by sandstone which is neutral with regard to mineral dissolution. In just ten to fifteen years, rainwater and runoff seep into the catchment basin, cross the mountain and encounter impenetrable clay, where they rise back up to the surface. Today, Acqua Panna® Natural Spring Water is one of the premier imported still waters in fine dining establishments in the United States.

Why Does Water Matter?

The more you learn, the more you’ll know the answer to that question. Even while producing spirits, Brown-Forman, one of the largest American-owned companies in the spirits and wine business, takes the water very seriously. For a supplier like Brown-Forman, water quality is of the upmost importance. It is water that gives Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey its trademark mineral chew, and Finlandia Vodka its crisp and clean, almost effervescent mouthfeel. For Brown-Forman, water is so essential to the success of its spirits that the company employs a fleet of chemists to make sure that the water they use makes the grade. California Moving To Tether Your Caps

A Bill (AB 319) in California is moving closer to requiring all bottle caps be tethered to the bottle by 2020. Environmentalists support the legislation, but a coalition of business and industry groups, including the IBWA, continue to oppose the proposal. It is undecided if this will address only bottled water, or all PET bottles.

Do you live in Sherman Texas?

This is how the water has appeared since Friday, Jan 26. The city reports it’s a result of a water main break. In addition to the color, it’s coming through the pipes with a pungent odor. They have since fixed the problem but are still flushing the lines. This is another incident which lends itself to justifying keeping a quality bottled water on hand.

When slightly acidic rainwater filters into the limestone, it moves horizontally. Over thousands of years, sections of the limestone rock dissolve, creating channels and caves. As those cavities grow, the overlying rock may collapse and form a sinkhole or a spring.

Most Florida springs flow from the Floridan Aquifer, one of the most productive aquifers in the world. Florida has 27 "first magnitude" springs with a total flow of slightly more than eight billion gallons per day. By comparison, Floridians use 7.2 billion gallons of water everyday - 60% drawn from aquifers. That's more than any other state east of the Mississippi River.
